Sandra Acevedo-Hanns, Founder & CEO, iGreen Media Group

As a child, Sandra loved dancing which led her to complete her Classical Ballet training. At the age of 12, Sandra auditioned to a new television program with young people dancing the latest R&B of the 70’s. The program became famous and widely recognized in Chile and abroad. Fans are still present in Sandra’s Facebook account.

Sandra arrive in San Francisco in 1981 making the Bay Area her home. She is a daughter, a mother, a grandmother and a wife living in the North Bay. Sandra studied Broadcasting while working in the medical field as an Administrator.

Today, Sandra’s commitment is to be known as one making a difference. Her passion to communicate with people has marked her path to what she does today.

How did you become interested in environmental work?

With a background in Television and Medical Administration, what sparked Sandra’s interests in the green movement started as the Co-Founder of Earth Day San Francisco and as a Board of Trustees of different nonprofits. Her journey has been learning about the needs of different communities and the importance of expanding education in all programs.

In 2011 Sandra started iGreen Media Group to create and produce content that makes a difference in people’s lives. To express that voice, she published iGreenWoman Magazine. And with the recognition of the Board of Supervisors of the City of San Francisco, San Francisco Sustainable Fashion Week International launched its first year in 2014 supporting environmental preservation and the health of people through fashion.

What inspired you to start your business and how did you take the leap to start it?

What an inspiration it has been to provide a platform to bring forth the work of those creating eco-businesses and nonprofits to better our lives!

Having lost an eight-year-old son due to the complication of a bone marrow transplant and cancer, now I know that; what affects our health is in what we breathe, in what we eat and in what we use and wear. What is clear is that our atmosphere, our oceans, and rivers have become the sewer of pollution from the surplus human activities that have severely affected the natural cycles of Earth.

Not to be ignored…toxicity is everywhere! And, how can I keep still?, she says.
