Shari Pomerantz is passionate about reducing carbon footprints, sustainable tourism, and sharing her love for the natural world with others. Her background includes managing environmental and educational programs for parks and resorts – as Museum Director in Harriman State Park, Sustainability Manager for Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, Tour Manager in Yosemite National Park, and Travel Planner for Black Sheep Adventures. She has also worked in nonprofit development and event planning. While in college, she founded a nonprofit organization, the Michigan Student Sustainability Coalition, to expand renewable energy purchases and environmental programs across the state. She has also volunteered as an English teacher with a sustainable community tourism organization in Bolivia and as a mentor with the Girlz Climb On rock climbing program in San Francisco. Shari has backpacked solo throughout South America, Southeast Asia, Nepal, and many of California’s state and national parks. She earned a BA from the University of Michigan with majors in the Program in the Environment and Political Science and joined the WEN Board in 2013.
