WEN Board member, Dr. Sapna Thottathil, will give a talk based on her new book, India’s Organic Farming Revolution at Pollinate Farm & Garden in the Fruitvale district of Oakland.

Does growing your own food or buying local food conflict with supporting sustainable farmers from abroad? Can consumers trust foods with the organic label, even if the food is from another country? What can U.S. consumers and gardeners learn from organic farmers in places like India? Dr. Thottathil will tackle these and other questions and explain how our global food system has come to take its complex shape over the years so that consumers are faced with these tough decisions. Dr. Thottathil will also share details about the growing buy-local and organic farming movements in India.
